Description

Face to Face Poetry Writing Class

How do you begin to write about climate change?
And how can we develop our critical skills as a reader to learn from other poets’ work
How can we draw inspiration from Greta Thurburg’s speeches

This class will seek to empower you as a reader and give you the tool kit you need. You will learn how to interrogate a text critically so you can learn how to grow creatively.

How do you write political poetry? How can you express anger in a poem?
And how do you use humour to win the day?

We will cover subjects such as dealing with strong emotions in our poetry – how can emotions succeed (or fail) in a poem?

What part does politics play in writing about the environment?
We will look at Greta Thurberg’s speeches as a poetic form and write our own speeches which we will develop into poems.

We will also investigate the power of language, asking how one word can impact the whole poem. We will read and explore poems by; George the Poet, Ruth Padel and Alice Oswald amongst others.
